Artist’s Statement

My artistic intentions

  1. Collaborate with the natural world

My art is a cooperative effort between my observations and the impermanence of nature’s beauty. The photographs I wish to make cannot exist without nature providing the elements that I can then arrange into a composition. This collaboration helps me appreciate nature’s intricate, often subtle, details.

  2. Photography as self expression

While exploring and observing natural environments, I am drawn to certain scenes or subjects that frame my own artistic voice. By using the environment as a canvas, I try to reflect my own feelings and ideas through my perspective of the scene. I hope that every photograph I make depicts the relationship between nature and myself.

  3. Connect others to the natural world

While collaborating with the natural world and joining my perspective with nature, I hope to stress how important and fleeting the natural world is. The scene that I spend time with today will not be the same tomorrow. I believe that nature is essential for humans to understand themselves and their place in this existence.

Statement of Ethics

  • I believe that my role as a nature photographer should always be that of an observer.

  • I believe that every natural scene that I photograph should remain untouched from human intention or any other unnatural disturbance.

  • I strive to minimize my presence in all environments and my impact on organisms of any kind.

  • I firmly believe that no work of art is worth the destruction or diminishment of nature.
